We’re currently on the lookout for a Mechanical Field Service Engineer to work on site at drilling rigs both in shipyards and offshore, carrying out inspection and service of drilling equipment including iron roughnecks, top drives, mud pumps, and drawworks.

The role will suit a highly experienced candidate with a strong drilling equipment maintenance background, capable of working independently, leading on site jobs and communicating with customers.

Responsibilities

Review work packs and prepare for mobilisation
Travel to and from site via road, airline, helicopter or boat
Communicate effectively with customers on site
Lead other team members as required
Read and interpret engineering drawings and manuals
Use cloud based work pack software to complete maintenance work orders
Use heavy tools to strip down equipment
Carry out visual inspection and dimensional inspection
Use micrometres, vernier gauges and dial indicators
Complete detailed equipment inspections and reports
Make recommendations for reuse, repair and replacement of parts
Communicate with shore based supervisors and managers
Provide technical support on site
Carry out servicing and repairs per recommendations
Rebuild and test equipment per work packs
Complete on site projects independently
Fulfil project quality plan and risk assessment requirements
Fulfil and comply with rig safety guidelines
Qualifications

Time served mechanical technician, fitter or similar – apprenticeship or HNC.
OEM equipment training advantageous but not essential
Experience

Significant experience working as a mechanical field service engineer or mechanical technician in repair of drilling equipment such as iron roughnecks, top drives, mud pumps, and drawworks is essential.
Experience working on site, independently in shipyards and offshore is essential.
Technical Requirements

Knowledge of rig operations
Ability to use heavy tooling effectively
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and manuals
Ability to use measuring tools such as micrometres, vernier gauges and dial indicators
IT literate and able to complete detailed inspection reports using latest software
