RigQuip Drilling Services and a leading Saudi Arabia shipyard strike a deal to establish a drilling equipment service facility in Saudi Arabia.
RigQuip has this week signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Zamil Shipyards to open a base in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. The collaboration will offer both companies’ clients drilling equipment inspection and service, combined with berthing and full maintenance, repair, and operating shipyard services.
The partnership, which is the first of its kind in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, will see RigQuip’s API Q2 certified drilling equipment service team establish a workshop base at Zamil’s Dammam shipyard and quayside facility, providing inspection and service of complete drilling packages and equipment, including top drives, drawworks, mud pumps, iron roughnecks, pipe handling equipment and pressure control equipment.
Zamil is the leading shipyard in Saudi, and services both the Arabian Gulf and Red Sea regions, offering full maintenance, repair and operation shipyard services. This announcement is part of its wider strategy to develop an integrated drilling and marine centre of excellence as part of Saudi’s Vision 2030.
On making the announcement, Dan Wibberley, RigQuip Operations Manager, MENA said: “In what is a very significant step in our international expansion plans, we are extremely pleased to announce the establishment of a RigQuip workshop in Saudi Arabia, in conjunction with Zamil Shipyards. The provision of our services, integrated with those available from Zamil’s team will greatly enhance our combined ability to serve our valuable clients in Kingdom.”
Nelson Mackie, Zamil Shipyards head of business development and marketing, said:“We’re excited to make this announcement, which adds a range of new services to Zamil’s already extensive offering. With the addition of RigQuip and its services, we further cement our position as the most practical, reliable and durable solutions provider in Kingdom, and continue to support Vision 2030.”
